Nagaya houses in Osaka in the Edo period and the Meiji period
In the city of Osaka, many wooden nagaya houses existed that were built under the legal system unique to Osaka, such as the Nagaya Building Code and the Osaka Prefectural Building Regulatory Code for the period from the middle of the Meiji period (1868–1912) to the time just before World War II.
